U-PLAN offers a variety of design services to help stakeholders envision and create special places that are reflective of the unique character of the community; emphasizing transit-oriented design and sustainable development. Organized “charrettes” bring community residents and businesses together with design professionals to create state-of-the-art architectural renderings, perspectives, and presentation materials. U-PLAN can also assist in the site planning process, including site analysis, code research and concept planning.

Streetscape perspective

SketchUP, a 3D modeling program, can quickly create building mass during a design workshop. Here, traditional rendering techniques were overlaid to characterize and enliven a streetscape perspective.

Walgreens / Big Top Liquor Alternative Design Workshop

Co-sponsored by District Council 11, District Council 13, and University UNITED, a two-day workshops was held at U-PLAN to explore ideas and discuss planning opportunities to improve the fit of the Walgreens/Big Top site plan with the planning goals of the Saint Paul Central Corridor Development Strategy.

 

Marshall Ave Blooming Saint Paul

District 13 was trying to visualize a green median down Marshall Avenue to gain community support. A similar Blooming project near the Smith Avenue High Bridge was superimposed with a photograph of Marshall Avenue.

Outcome: community support was gained and segments of a green median have been built.
