San Francisco

Third Street

MUNI T Third Street Line

The San Francisco T Third Street line opened in 2007. It runs down the middle of Third Street which was formerly a six-lane arterial that fed downtown. Now, Third Street is comprised of two lanes of traffic with on-street parking along commerical districts of the line.

Strategies

1) Lacks elongated, landscape medians adjacent to light rail tracks, save right-of-way for other uses.

2) The light rail tracks serpentine to accomodate turn lanes.

3) The design of the stations saves right-of-way by having a center, double-loaded platform on only one side of an intersection.
